Hams Hall A – Turbines

Hams Hall `A’ Station was equipped with 3 x 30MW Fraser Chalmers / GEC Generators and 3 x 54MW Parsons / GEC Generators. They were arranged end to end in a long Turbine Hall and supplied with steam from a combination of Boilers via the steam range.

The station also had two 1.875 GEC House Sets.

In 1962 a 15 MW  Bristol Siddeley Olympus  gas turbine driving a Brush generator was installed in Hams `A’ turbine loading bay. It was used to assess the suitability of aircraft gas turbine generators for meeting peak-load and providing emergency supplies and black start capability for 500MW generator units. It remained operational until1980.
