Spondon `A’ Control Room was a long black slate panel in a corridor suspended below the overhead train track running nearly the full length of the Turbine Hall. The panel had the original large switches and meters plus numerous exposed large copper knife switches. There was a small cabin at the end with a sliding door for the Control Engineer to sit in and use the phones. All the phones and alarms sounded a Klaxon so they could be heard over the noise of the Turbines. There was an open section above the end of T/A’s 1 & 2 that had a 132kv panel and a LSC. Out back was a relatively new panel for Nos 4 & 5 Turbines, a relay panel and the meter room.
