By the early 90’s Castle Donington was required less and less by National Grid and was eventually only needed for grid security with one generator. In 1994 it was officially closed and demolition began. Demolition was carried out by Brown & Mason and the site was finally cleared by 1997. Andy James was the Site Demolition Engineer for PowerGen
