Staythorpe A – Turbines

As a visitor you couldn’t help but be impressed by the long turbine hall with it’s 6 x 60MW BTH Turbines installed end to end. They were grouped in pairs with the HP Steam ends facing each other alongside adjacent control panels opposite each Boiler House.

The 6 BTH two cylinder Turbines were just larger versions of earlier 30MW sets and had 10 Nozzle control governor valves mounted in a steam chest on the top half of the HP Cylinder with a Stop Valve either end. The last two of these nozzle valves to open were a bypass, feeding steam further down the HP cylinder.
