Turbines: Spondon `H’ had three 10.12MW AEI back pressure Turbines installed end to end in the Turbine Hall. They were supplied with steam at 468 degC and 62 Bar from the steam range. Load was controlled by two nozzle control governor valves mounted on the top of the turbine. The air cooled Alternators generated electricity at 11.8kv.
Boilers: Spondon `H’ had four Foster Wheeler three drum Chain Grate Boilers. The chain grates and firing equipment were made by ICL. The Boilers were rated 180,000 lb/hour 65bar & 480degC. The Boilers supplied steam to a common steam range. Each Boiler had a continuous blowdown system to reduce the need for high quality treated water.
Control Room: The Plant Control Room contained the Generator control panels plus a large mimic panel of the system with manual override facility and alarm annunciators. The control room also contained a 33KV & 11KV local distribution panel. The boiler control panels were located in front of each boiler as were the Turbine panels.
